I buy the analogy and agree with your conclusion. The thing to note is that the medical field has figured out how to rigorously train surgeons in a way that would be considered to be no less academically-sound than training in business. I think it means that business has been lazy in not expanding its rigor to territories that are harder to train rigorously. Practicing surgeons are encouraged to write articles in prestigious medical journals. Practicing businesspeople don’t even think about it.

I don’t think that reflects well on the business discipline.
